Easter week-end in Dubrovnik (Croatia): 6- In Dubrovnik, Day 3: Strange Hotel Belvedere
La carte touristique qui m'a été donnée au point info l'indique: l'Hotel Belvedere se situe à l'extrémité sud-est de la ville, à côté de la plage que je cherchais.
On peut le voir depuis le vieux port, c'est un bâtiment très impressionnant!
The tourist map which one gave me at the info point indicates it: the Hotel Belvedere is located at the south-east edge of the city, nearby the beach I was looking for.
You can see it from the old port, it is a very huge building!
Donc, à priori, pas de risque de le louper...
Sauf qu'en fait je m'y suis retrouvée complètement par hasard!!
Et qu'il ne ressemble pas du tout à ce que j'aurais pu imaginer!
... when I found myself in a strange place, squat like-looking, with tags of beetles (don't ask me why! And no, it was not because of the sun! ;-b)

So, it seems that you cannot miss it...
But in fact I got there totally by chance!!
And it doesn't look like what I could have imagined at all!
Je suivais un
passage, toujours à la recherche de cette fameuse plage, et à admirer
le paysage, ...
So here is my little adventure ;-) :
I was following a way, still searching this famous beach, et admiring the landscape,
... lorsque je me suis retrouvée dans un endroit étrange, genre
squat, recouvert de tags de scarabées (ne me demandez pas pourquoi! Et
non, non, ce n'était pas le soleil! ;-b).
Personne.
J'ai continué un peu plus loin; jusqu'au bout en fait: la plage était peut-être accessible là-bas?
Mais
après une descente un peu glissante, je me suis retrouvée devant une
échelle rouillée et, en contre-bas, construit au dessus de l'eau, un
bâtiment un peu -comment dire-... l'air pas solide...
Une seule solution: faire demi-tour :-( ... (Toujours pas trouvé ma plage!!)
Nobody.
I continued a little bit further; until the end in fact: maybe the beach would be accessible from there?
But after following a quite slippy down-hill path, I was in front of a rusted scale, and, below, constructed above the sea, a building a little bit -how to say-... not looking like very solid...
Only one solution: to turn back :-( ... (Still hadn't found my beach!!)
Et c'est là que je lève enfin les yeux du côté opposé à la mer!! And that's when I raise my eyes!!

...Par chance, il y avait deux Croates lorsque je suis remontée, et ils parlaient anglais !
Luckily there were two Croatian men when I went back up, and they spoke English!
C'est ainsi que j'ai eu confirmation qu'il s'agit bien de l'hotel Belvedere... abandonné!
En 1991 ou 92 il a été quelque peu abimé lorsque Dubrovnik a été attaquée.
Mais surtout, il parait qu'il a ensuite été laissé à l'abandon, car il aurait été considéré comme obsolète par son propriétaire!
Pourtant, selon moi, cela a du être un hôtel sacrément luxueux, avec une position et un panorama idéaux, et, même après 20 ans, les facades sont presque comme neuves!!
Et puis le béton aussi est encore bien solide, même si je n'ai pas osé m'aventurer toute seule dans les bâtiments... => Curieuse, un peu courageuse, mais pas téméraire!! ;-p
J'ai pris quelques photos des parties que j'ai été voir: vous aller pouvoir juger par vous même!
That's how I got the confirmation that it is the hotel Belvedere... abandoned!
In 1991 or 92 it had been a little bit damaged when Dubrovnik was attacked.
But above all, they told me that it has been let abandoned, supposedly because the owner would have considered it was obsolete!
Though, to my point, it was surely a very luxuous hotel, with ideal location and panorama, and, even after 20 years, the facade almost looks like new!!
And the concrete also is still very strong, even if I haven't dared to venture into the buildings by my own... => Curious, a little brave, but not fulhardy!! ;-p
I took some pictures of the parts that I went to look at: you'll be able to judge by your own!
